February 18, 2014

Dear Family and Friends,

Soooo Solomon had more wives than I have days left on my mission!  That's good news right!? (Maybe not if you were one of those wives, but whatever). (1 Kings 11:3)

This week actually went by faster than last week so I guess that's good news!  We only had 8 cancelled appointments as opposed to the 12 from last week.  The weather here has been great though so we have had a good time tracting.  We've been doing a lot of walking!  We've also found a lot of crazy mailboxes (including one that looks like a unicycle, which makes me miss my unicycle).  But there is some bad news...  We found 6 new investigators last week and this week they all fell through.  They all are not interested or they won't call us back.  It's been hard because we really felt good last week and slowly this week we've just been let down time and time again.  Hopefully we will be able to find those that the Lord has prepared this week.  One thing that has helped me a lot has been praying to know where we need to be and when so that we can run into the people that the Lord has prepared.  My companion and I just started saying that almost in every prayer we say!

On Wednesday there was a meeting in Rancho Cucamonga for the new missionaries!  I was able to be a part of that, in fact I had to drive there.  It took about 45 minutes to get there and I thought I was going to die!  People in California cannot drive!!!!  It was a scary moment in my life.  I'm glad I got to drive in Utah for a while because if I went to California straight from Burkburnett I would have fainted.  But the Lord really does watch over His missionaries because nothing happened to us!

This week we taught Bill.  He is a former mayor and he's about 55 years old (totally guessing but I'm sure that's close).  He has a 5 year old son and a foreign exchange student from China living with him.  He is really nice; he even invited us to go on his yacht last week, which we declined because we had lots of appointments and it's against our rules.  But the great thing about Bill is that he is progressing!  He knows the Book of Mormon is true because of the code in the book and how it relates to other books he's read.  He has proof that the Book of Mormon is true because of physical evidence (He reads lots of ancient America and History type stuff).  Sooo Sister S and I are trying to get him to gain a spiritual testimony of the Book of Mormon!

I received two packages and lots of letters this week for Valentine's Day.  Thank you to all who sent things to me.  Especially Susie  for the delicious cake balls :).  I thought my tub of ice cream was going to be my Valentine but I realized that I have lots of people who care about me.  Thanks y'all!

On February 15th Liz was baptized!  Although I did not help find her or began teaching her, I was able to meet with her several times.  It's a great story because her husband was a less active member so the missionaries went to see him and they ended up talking to Liz. Long story short:  her husband began coming back to church and last Saturday he was able to baptize his wife!!

This week at church we were able to study the Savior in depth and talk about His life.  Before this lesson I had a testimony of the Savior, but now I've personalized the stories in the New Testament to help me through this hard time.  I've often wondered if I could make it through my whole mission.  I now know that I can.  I know that Christ calmed the stormy sea and it seems that my life is a stormy sea at times, but He can and He is calming it.  We were listening to a song in the car and the song was quoting scripture and it said, "This is My work and glory, if ye love me feed My sheep".  After strengthening my testimony of Jesus Christ and then hearing this song I have come to realize my purpose.  I love the Savior so that's why I'm here.  I'm spreading the good news of Christ; I'm feeding His sheep!

Verily, verily, I say unto you, ye are little children, and ye have not as yet understood how great blessings the Father hath in his own hands and prepared for you;

And ye cannot bear all things now; nevertheless, be of good cheer, for I will lead you along. The kingdom is yours and the blessings thereof are yours, and the riches of eternity are yours. (Doctrine and Covenants 78:17-18).

Love,

Sister Moon
